My goal, starting August 1st, is to write 1000 words a day, every day. I realize that today is only the 4th, but so far I am pleased with my progress. At this pace, I will have over 30,000 words by the end of the month, which is the approximate length of the YA historical fiction I am currently working on. Each Thursday in August I’ll let you know how it’s going. The biggest challenge so far is the revising. If I allow myself to reread the previous day’s work then I cannot make myself move forward until I have smoothed the kinks and perfected the prose. Technically, revising does not qualify for the 1000 word daily quota, because if it did my novel would end up being 1000 words, which isn’t a novel and well, you get my drift. So, this is the plan. I will only allow myself to revise when I have finished the new 1000 words. Yikes! This will take exceptional self-control. Wish me luck!
