This weekend was spent in the company of wonderful writers and illustrators. The energy in the building, in the rooms was palpable. I felt as if I was recharging by simply standing in the room. Every conversation focused on the thrill, the satisfaction, the importance of telling stories and keeping alive the story telling tradition, whatever form that may take. Such wisdom. Such talent. I felt honoured to be numbered among this group of artists. By the end of the weekend, I think we all agreed that stories will never disappear. And, after all, isn’t that what is important? Does it matter whether we paint on a cave wall or hold a card to our forehead to download a story? Thanks to Kathryn Cole, editor of Tundra Books, for bringing home this message. I do, however, hope that she is not a casualty as the winds of change blow hard in the publishing industry. A brilliant woman.
