Mindful Musings A focused free writing activity.
This activity is similar to the Mindless Musings activity except that now we want to practice developing creative thinking within a particular topic. Use the same rules as above EXCEPT that you will not switch topics.
Students will brainstorm a list of topics for their writer’ s notebook to use each time they do this practice exercise.
OR Brainstorm topics as a class and have everyone write on the same topic.
(You could choose topics that fit with certain curriculum content or debate topics etc.)
Memory can be tied into this exercise as a way of focusing creativity. Everyone could begin with the words I remember…” and carry on.
This activity can be adapted in endless ways in the classroom. Keep in mind that the purpose must be to express ideas in writing–NOT to criticize, organize or edit.
